Mise en Place
Interpretation & Meaning
Within the traditional Tarot deck, the Magician stands confident behind his table, mastering the invisible laws of the universe and the practical rules of the physical world.
At the figurative crossroads of spirituality and artistry, he has everything he needs to do his job and yet the question stings: what would his job be today? How do we drag him into the XXI century without having him pull rabbits out of cylinders at birthday parties?
The answer is in the birthday party itself. Not in the ecstatic laughter of children nor in the colorfully wrapped packages, but in the moment secretly awaited by every guest. It marches into the room dressed in burning wishes and scored with a familiar, cheerful tune.
“Do we have enough plates?”
“I’ll get a knife!”
“Be ready to blow as hard as you can!”
Baking is the astonishing combination of physics, aesthetic and taste to create what is first and foremost a manifestation of love.
Magic.
That’s right, the modern day Magician turned his wand into a wooden spoon and the tools of the trade into precisely weighed ingredients orderly placed on his work station- a mise en place of sorts.
